21 August 2005.
Homer's on the move. He's now between Danbury
and Bridgeport, CT. He got there on the
20th.
Last year at about this time one of our
youngsters flew over to Connecticut and settled down for a month before
heading south. This observation dovetailed neatly with our previous data
on adults that commute, after a nest failure, between their nesting
territories and freshwater fishing holes on the mainland.
So now we're wondering if Homer is going to stick
around a while or head south. We're pretty sure this bird is a male, and
adult males usually migrate in September, so our guess is that this bird
will settle down for a bit.
