8 April 2005. Thanks
to Dick Jennings for sending this photo of Bluebeard (the lower bird, with
a fish in his talons) and his mate.
It looks like they've been trimming the nest
already and may be about to enjoy a fresh, juicy trout, courtesy of the
state stocking program that recently released a whole mess of trout in a
couple of the Vineyard ponds.
This will be the last map until
the fall. It's been a fun trip--enjoy the summer!
Late summer update:
Bluebeard and his mate were among the many Martha's Vineyard Ospreys whose
nests failed this year. At the moment, Bluebeard is still hanging around
his nest. He should start his southward migration sometime in September.
