15 Sept 06: Comet is
speeding down the coast. He's an exception to our observations that most
birds going down the coast from eastern NC usually hit Cape Fear and head
off over the Atlantic from there. Westerly winds might have pushed him
inland a bit (his transmitter wasn't on when he made this part of the
trip), in which case we wouldn't expect him to head out over the
water.
On the 12th-14th he was along the St. John River
in northeastern FL. This has to be an Osprey-rich area during fall
migration. A lot of our birds have passed through here. He has flown 1329
mi (2139 km) in 8 days, averaging 166 mi/day (267 km/day).
