Bluebeard has apparently arrived at his wintering ground, or I guess his
wintering water. His behavior after arriving in South America is very
similar to all the other adults we have tracked. Once they've crossed the
Caribbean, they take off in a very straight line, flying fast, and come to
a screeching halt. Typically they will stay within 10 miles of this spot
for about 5 months. Then, sometime in February or March, they begin to
head home.
Bluebeard crossed the equator on the 27th
and is now in the Amazonian watershed. He is in the Colombian state of
Amazonas, on the Caqueta River (a tributary of the Rio Negro), in or just
west of Cahuinara National Park.
The Osprey-ometer now reads 3603 mi. (5798
km). He left the Vineyard 31 days ago and averaged 116 miles/day
(186 km/day). After making landfall in Colombia, he covered 703 miles
(1131 km) in 5 days, averaging 141 miles/day during this stretch.

until February.
