14-22 Oct. Sometime late on the 14th Homer left Nassau. We have one point north of Cuba at 22:56. This point is low accuracy, so we don't think he was that far off course, but that point lets us know that he left Nassau late in the afternoon and made some of this 250 miles (410 km) trip in the dark. He spent the 15th and 16th between San Agustin and San Lorenzo in Cuba. On the 17th he started moving again, getting an uncharacteristically early start. By 10:30 he was about 100 miles into the day's travel, passing over Santiago around midday. On the 18th he left Cuba in the late afternoon and covered 110 miles (177 km) to the Haitian half of Hispaniola, arriving probably around 2100h, some time after sunset. No data for the 19th, so we don't know when he got to the Dominican Republic. Our last two points on the 20th had him at mid morning (9-10 AM) moving down Cabo Beato, where we've seen so many of our birds launch for South America. Our first location on the 21st was at 9:51 400 miles (640 km) south of Hispaniola. The cluster of points 50 miles (82 km) north of Colombia cover about 5 hours, so I suspect he was resting on a boat. Our first location for him on the continent was at 15:46. His landfall was about 60 miles (100 km) southwest of where he landed on his first trip to South America in the fall of '05.
Scroll down for a side-by-side comparison of his '05 and '07 trips through the Caribbean.
