has FINALLY decided to get a move on. He spent more than a month at his
fresh water site near the CT/RI border and took off on the 5th. He flew
pretty much due south and then seems to have paralleled the Long Island
shore pretty much all the way to New Jersey. This first leg was 208 mi.
(335 km). On the 6th he moved 56 mi (95 km) southeast through New Jersey,
settling down around a small lake about 15 mi. SE of Philadelphia. When he finally got going, three of our migrating birds were already in Colombia. Only Lew, our young male from Delaware was still in the States (in a big marsh near Savannah, GA). |
